DVSA do not supply cars for the Practical Test and we usually advise experienced drivers to do the test in their own car, although our Driving School vehicles are also available for tests.
If using your own car:
- Standard L-plates must be displayed front and rear
- An additional interior mirror must be fitted for the examiner to use
- The vehicle must be roadworthy, legal and clean
Some vehicles are not accepted for practical tests due to limited visibility, including:
- Mini Convertible
- BMW 218 Convertible
- Ford KA Convertible
- Smart Fortwo
- Toyota IQ
Check if your car can be used before booking a test.
You can check if your car can be used by contacting the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).
Always check if you want to use a:
- Convertible car
- Coupe (a car with a fixed roof, two doors and a sloping rear)
